Okay, if you love your West Aussie music then I can assume you already know about WAMfest. If not then let me fill you in on one of the ultimate FREE gigs of the year. WAMfest, in celebration of WA music, will be set up in the Perth Cultural Centre and will feature some of WA’s most exciting artists. Legends like Abbe May, Odette Mercy & Her Soul Atomics and Voyager will be there but so will up-and-comers Old Merv, Adrian Dvzuke, Dulci and Legs Electric. In fact, there is a plethora of artists playing throughout the entire day so make sure to check the list.

PIJF: Grace Knight - The First 40 Years

In the landscape of Australian Jazz there might not be an artist as well-loved as Grace Knight. Grabbing the attention of the public with the internationally acclaimed pop-rock group Eurogliders, Knight established her reputation as a diverse and talented singer. Later she moved into the jazz space, releasing the soundtrack Come In Spinner from the ABC series which went on to become the highest-selling Australian jazz record of all time. Since then she has released several successful solo albums including Grace (2018) and Stormy Weather (1991). Witness this legend when she takes to the Ellington stage to perform songs from her 40-year career which she has lovingly selected.

Regurgitator with Party Dozen and The Community Chest

If you were to put together a list of the defining Australian albums of the 1990s then Regurgitator’s colossal album Unit (1997) sits comfortably at the top end. This album that fused pop, electro, rock and punk is being rereleased for its 25th anniversary and the ‘Gurg are heading back to WA to celebrate! The band have consistently toured and released new music throughout the years and their shows are infamous for the high energy the band and fans bring. Saviour has gone through a shake-up of their band lineup recently but the now quintet are back with a gig at Amplifier to deliver their brand of metalcore music. Known for pushing the boundaries and melding influences of post-hardcore with electro motifs, Saviour is not your ordinary metal band and it’s why they’ve remained a mainstay in the alternative scene in Perth. It’ll be big, brash and abrasive so if you need a rush, this is the show to see.
