Stepping out of the air con, into the heat of the day, makes me want to head straight to a cool city bar. In the City of Perth, we’re never more than a few meters away from a rad rooftop bar, downstairs drinking den, or a trendy tipple on tap at a Perth brewery. From classic cocktails, to low fi wines and craft beers, the City of Perth has it all. Let’s check out where to find the city drinks that are so hot right now.

Cool City of Perth Cocktails

When it comes to Perth bars, is there anything cooler than a rooftop bar? The lush Terrarium brings the goods when it comes to top-notch drinks. Owner-Operator, Xander Stucken, the 2024 WA Good Food Guide “Cocktail Bartender of the Year”, sure knows his stuff. Want summer in a glass? Order a “Biddy Boom” whiskey sour.

I love to watch day turn to night and bask in the twinkling lights of the city. There are not many bars better situated to do this than at Songbird, on level five of the Ritz-Carlton Perth. Each cocktail is expertly crafted to bring out vibrant West Aussie flavours. Their signature plum Songbird cocktail is served in a unique bird-shaped glass, adding an extra special touch.

Keep the summer vibes going year-round at Neon Palms. This Northbridge spot is where Latin American bar bites and burgers collide with their oh so cool cocktails. Ask the bartenders to shake up their Signature drink, The Neon Margarita, an electric blue mix of tequila, fresh lime, and agave.

Find the golden ticket to get your disco dance on at Toots, in Northbridge. This super-secret cocktail bar serves up retro-tastic drinks from White Russians, to Blue Hawaiians and even early naughties classics like Midori Illusions Shakers and Squashed Frog shots – I sure remember those! Recline on the velvet lounge with a West Coast Cooler Super Spritz – best shared with a friend or two.

Ola! It’s a Friday fiesta at Caballitos, the Queen Street basement bar that brings the energy any night of the week. I love the Latino vibe at this South American spot, where you can satisfy your thirst with a spicy marg or two.

Perth Wine Bars to Whet Your Whistle

St Georges Terrace spot Copia makes good sense for after work drinkies. A share menu perfectly pairs dishes with their varied, global wine list. I like to linger longer in the courtyard and stick around for snacks. Tuck into a terrine with a Spanish Tempranillo, or a house-made sausage roll washed down with a with a South African Chenin Blanc.

Found down the historic Wesley Lance, Enoteca Centro’s extensive wine line-up has been carefully curated by Perth’s only “Master of Wine” and co-owner Brendan Jansen. Head there for a sensational sip, or why not delve a little deeper and enjoy a wine masterclass.

With renowned sommeliers on hand to help pick a top pinot, pulling up a stool at Wine Merchant in Perth’s State Buildings, is always a good idea. Expect to see hard to find bottles, paired with ethical producers on their ever changing by-the-glass list.

Cheers and Beers in Perth

Craft beer nerds will want to check out the on-tap offering at newbie Brewdog. This British chain is now pulling pints in the West Perth warehouse that was formerly home to Gordon Street Garage. Expect to see their legendary hot wings, burgers and pizzas on the menu.

Looking for a cool watering hole in the city? Murry Street’s Pirate Life in-house brewery is pouring liquid relief from the summer heat. The multi-venue spot is also home to casual fine-dining at TOMA and CRUSH; a Cali/Mex inspired cocktail bar.

Fun fact - Elizabeth Quay is home to a micro-brewery. The Island EQ brews its own “Little Island Brewing Co” bevvys that are poured directly from the vats – you can’t get fresher than that! From a cool IPA, to the distinctly Belgian-style blonde ale, there’s a beer to quench everyone’s thirst.
