The Northbridge bar hopNorthbridge offers the quintessential Perth bar-hopping experience. Start from the northern side of Perth Station.
First, head for some chilled-out courtyard eats and drinks. Try Lot Twenty for $12 Bellini's, house-made sodas and a Spanish-inspired charcuterie board, or Henry Summer for cocktail jugs, mocktails and meals to share (or not).
Then walk along William Street for a wine at North Bird or Shadow Wine Bar. Both offer sophisticated seasonal share plates and an extensive range of expertly selected bottles.
From there it’s not far to Hello Rooftop Bar at The Rechabite, Mechanics Institute or The Standard to enjoy the summer breeze as the sun sets beyond the city skyline.
Finally, you’re spoiled for choice with speakeasy-style bars hidden around Northbridge. Go behind the fridge door for live music at Convenients, look for Sneaky Tony’s in Chinatown, head underground to Joe’s Juice Joint, or try to find Toots, the secret bar WITHIN a secret bar.
The West of William bar hopThere’s lots to discover south of the Horseshoe Bridge too. Meet your mates at Perth Underground or Elizabeth Quay Station and head west for this itinerary.
Your first stop is The Stables, a historic venue with a contemporary menu on Hay Street. Grab a grazing board to fuel your crew.
Next, head to Brookfield Place for a choice of chic wine and bars: Heritage, Lafayette, Bobèche or Small Print. Honestly, you could spend a whole evening bar-hopping right here (with minimal actual movement required)!
For your sunset spot, either head up to Bob’s Bar on the top level of Print Hall, or take a walk to Prince Lane. Both offer pizza and other meals to fill those tums.
Then fiesta the night away with margaritas and tacos at Caballitos!
The East End bar hop
Explore over east of Barrack Street with this route. You’ll kick off with Middle-Eastern inspired cocktails and bites in breezy surrounds at Hadiqa. Then elevate yourself to the eighteenth floor for sprawling city views from the Rooftop at QT.
A wander by the waterTake the ferry, train or bus to Elizabeth Quay and you won’t have to go far to follow this bar-hopping route.
Start off at The Island, a microbrewery serving seven premium beers directly from their vats into your glass. Perch yourself by the water and enjoy one of the best locations in Perth. Alternatively, go for seafood and pop a bottle of bubbles at The Oyster Bar.
Mere moments away, you’ll find The Reveley, with a rooftop perfect for enjoying the afternoon breeze sweeping up the Swan River. Or go to greater heights at 18 Knots Rooftop Bar on the 18th floor of the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel.
After dark, peel away from the river to grab a glass of vino at Lalla Rookh before finishing up with cocktails (and perhaps a late-night jaffle) at Foxtrot Unicorn, an award-winning bar hidden in a bank vault dating back to 1887.
Tip: Some venues are walk-in only, but at others, it pays to book (especially for larger groups). Check their websites for deets.
Don't forget to walk along the Rio Tinto Christmas Lights Trail, starting at 6pm nightly until Tuesday 2 January. You’ll find 22 light installations across the city from Northbridge to Elizabeth Quay, including Santa’s Christmas Cadillac and the chance to get a different kind of quokka selfie!
