Comfort food
Wild winter weather calls for a hot, hearty meal. And Perth pubs and bars have got you covered with comfort food: think gooey cheese and carb-loading.
Small Print is doing fondue and raclette in August. Expect melted cheesy goodness with bread or potatoes and charcuterie, respectively. Wash it down with a wine - they have over 50 options by the glass from around the globe.
Henry Summer is also on the fondue train with fondue Fridays. Choose from cheese with savoury dippers or chocolate with fruits, marshmallows and more.
And Varnish on King is doing whiskey and cheese flights.
Nab a spot by a fireplace at The Stables for their wintery Wednesday lunch special: $20 for a wagyu beef pie, creamy mash and smashed peas.
Or try the handmade, fresh-baked pies by the fire in the Edward & Ida’s courtyard. They also serve up late night jaffles and have a weekly Sunday roast coming up in August.
Finally, proving that bottomless brunch is not season-specific, Hadiqa’s Spiced Bottomless features spicy margaritas to fire things up.
Sweet treats
Looking for the best hot chocolate in Perth?Chicho Gelato is pouring Euro-style hot chocolates: thick and rich with cream and a dusting of more chocolate. It’s a must try.
Vetrina on Newcastle Street serves up a unique range of sweet liquid treats from their little window. Biscoff hot chocolate? Pistachio white hot choc? Nutella mocha? Hazelnut affogato? Repeat visits will be necessary.
DIY by picking up a jar of hot chocolate mix from Sue Lewis Chocolatier, or try their hot chocolate bombs - a ball of chocolate encasing a marshmallow (simply pour hot milk over it).
For a more grown-up winter drink, head to Lot Twenty in Northbridge for a mug of mulled wine. They also have masterclasses coming up where you can learn to make your own.
Cosy hideaways
Despite our fondness for courtyards and rooftop bars, Perth has plenty more options for snug winter spots. For example, you could play chess in the lounge room with a good pub meal at The Royal Hotel. Or head inside Picabar, where a recent renovation unearthed and restored an old fireplace.
There are also a bunch of fun hidden bars around the city.
And if you’re looking for things to do other than eating and drinking, try these indoor activities for winter in Perth.
