It’s that time again - school holidays are about to kick off in WA! And with spring well underway, Perth City is full of fun things to do for kids of all ages. Here are five great ways to fill your family’s days.

1. Be amazed at the AWESOME Festival

The AWESOME Festival (aka the AWESOME International Arts Festival for Bright Young Things) will run from Tuesday 26th to Saturday 30th September in the Perth Cultural Centre. You’ll find a spectacular array of events including theatre, creative workshops, ballet, music, and exhibitions aimed at kids under 12 and their families. Hop on the train to the city for a show at the State Theatre Centre, craft activities in the creative hubs, storytelling at the State Library, and more!

2. Connect with nature at Kings Park

The Everlasting Kings Park Festival celebrates the beauty and diversity of WA’s wildflowers. Head to the park by October 1st for blooming gardens and a buzzing springtime vibe. And check out what’s on at Kings Park for their school holiday workshops. Kids can meet the gardeners and help them prepare garden beds in Budding Green Thumbs, discover how to identify insects and why they’re so important for our environment in Bugging Out, and have a close-up encounter with owls in Birds of the Night, to name a few.

3. Explore Egypt at the WA Museum Boola Bardip

It’s your last chance to visit the Discovering Ancient Egypt exhibition and Beyond the Tomb activity space at WA Museum Boola Bardip. See over 240 treasures, from statues and amulets to coffins and mummies, and try constructing pyramids and creating personalised cartouches with hieroglyphics. There are also several drop-and-leave school holiday programs delving into Egyptian history, like mask-making, stop-motion animation, screen printing and more.

4. Discover outer space at Scitech

Scitech’s September school holiday schedule is out of this world. Take the kids along to learn what it’s like to be an astronaut with the training zone, rocket launch simulator and space lab. Feel like you’re floating around in space with the virtual reality spacewalk experience. Meet real-life space scientists at special presentations. And take a voyage through the planetarium.

5. Indulge their interests at City of Perth Library

There’s always lots of children’s events at City of Perth Library. Drop in for daily holiday craft activities, and search for a golden feather while you’re there to win a prize. Join the Dinosaur Picnic for kids aged 0 to 8 or Fun with Fossils for 7 to 11-year-olds. There are also workshops on mystery writing, junk puppets, and an influential historical woman, the Byzantine Empress Theodora.
