Pride at PICA
Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) are renowned for their year-round program of contemporary art, exhibitions and performance and are celebrating PrideFEST in style. Enjoy photographic artist Jack Ball’s new exhibition, Heavy Grit inspired by their research into trans archives, and L’ombre de ton ombre (The shadow of your shadow) featuring photographic, textile and machine learning works from Paul Knight. We love the PICA After Dark series which throws open the gallery doors after hours and the Pride edition will showcase the current exhibitions, with DJs and free beer. You can also explore behind-the-scenes at the Open Studio with artist JC and hear about their work.
Celebrate the RAINEbow
Through November, Raine Square will transform into a vibrant display of colour and self-expression honouring Western Australia’s Pride month. Join in PRIDE @ Palace Cinemas, STRUT RAINEbow Runway, SLAY Fashion Pop-up, BALLS UP Drag Bingo, LGBTQIA+ Panel Discussion, VIP events and more. Be sure to secure your spot at the 30th Anniversary Remastered screening of the Australian cinema classic, The Adventure of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
Reflect and Respect
It’s been 35 years since the LGBTQIA+ community marched to Parliament House to protest laws discriminating gay men and PrideFEST 2024 offers a look back at the history of WA’s queer community.
WA Museum Boola Bardip will host Queering The Museum: An LGBTQIA+ Tour and on World AIDS Day display the WA AIDS Memorial Quilts. Each hand-crafted panel is a testament to unyielding strength of human connection and community spirit.
You can also contribute by donating your items on WestPride Archives Community Collections Day. Bring along photographs, posters, flyers, t-shirts, badges, scrapbooks, banners, costumes and much more needing a permanent home.
Get Informed
PrideFEST is not just about celebration, it’s also a valuable opportunity to get informed on important issues or discover volunteer opportunities in the LGBTQIA+ community. Head along to the WA Annual Surrogacy Information Day, QLife & Living Proud Volunteer Info Session, or be sure to visit the community stalls at Fairday to find out more.
Intrinsèque at Council House
The City of Perth is celebrating PrideFEST 2024 at Council House with an exhibition bringing together the works of several LGBTQIA+ artists, each contributing their unique voice to the conversation around identity and artistic expression. We will also present Christophe Canato's Intrinsèque series, commissioned by the City of Perth in 2023. This is a powerful photographic exploration of inner worlds, blending vulnerability and strength, and reflecting on identity and transformation. You can view the exhibition during Council House opening hours during November.
