Voyager

June might herald the first chilly month of winter but it also marks some of the hottest local and international gigs of the year happening in Perth city. This month's best gigs offer something for everyone from folk-pop, metal, afro beats and indie music. Best of all, many of these great gigs are from WA artists.

Ásgeir

Did you know that one-tenth of the population of Iceland owns Ásgeir’s debut album Dýrð í dauðaþögn’ / In The Silence? The Icelandic artist became a legend at the early age of 20 with his songbook of soul-searching, vulnerable vignettes of folk-pop. He is especially talented at being able to mix whimsical themes with expansive dreamy sonic soundscapes, so to see him back in Perth after his last sold-out show in 2017 is a real treat. This time round he has a new album, Time On My Hands which has a more contemporary spin on his usual work but still with all the texturally rich flourishes and lilting vocals that you come to expect from the one-of-a-kind artist.

Frente “Marvin The Album” Anniversary Tour

Step back to a different era and into the enchanting realm of Frente as they head to Badlands to celebrate the 30th anniversary milestone of their debut, 'Marvin The Album.' In 1992 group burst onto the airwaves with their sweet pop tune Ordinary Angels and later cemented their place in the Australian music scene with their ARIA award-winning album. Original members Simon Austin and Angie Hart will dip into old memories and self-deprecating humour while revisiting some of their most adored songs including the optimistically camp Accidentally Kelly Street and Labour of Love. They’ll also dip into their catalogue to perform a selection of their favourite songs. Check them out to hear a slice of memorable Aussie indie music from the early 1990s.

Voyager

Magnet House

Local legends and now bonafide Eurovision Australian heroes Voyager are doing a victory lap around Australia with a run of headline shows. The band will be rolling out their synth-metal top 10 Eurovision song Promise to Perth audiences at Magnet House, but local music fans know they have much more to offer. The group have been gigging for years as purveyors of progressive metal music having released several albums and are known for their energetic and fierce live shows. It’s great to see the band receive such deserved adoration and it’s one thing to see them on TV and another to see them in all their glory live. So, check them out before the gig sells out.

Adrian Dzvuke

If you haven’t yet checked out Adrian Dzvuke, now is the time. The Perth artist is one of the best WA artists to recently emerge. He’s graced the stages at Splendour In The Grass, Groovin' The Moo and played support to a who’s who of WA artists POND, Kevin Parker, Stella Donnelly and San Cisco. Now he’s taking centre stage with his first-ever national headline tour. The afrobeat, R&B and pop artist will be performing tracks from his latest EP Don’t Worry About It Sweetheart and it’s bound to be a gig of ultimate dance grooves and good vibes. Grab your crew and get down to the soulful tunes of FIYAH, WASSUP and NOBODY ELSE.

Adrian Dzvuke

Coterie

Coterie is on fire at the moment. The group consists of four brothers who are originally from Aotearoa and now call Perth home. The brothers deliver reggae and indie surf rock tunes that sound like a balmy summer afternoon. Glowy songs featuring bright melodies and honeyed vocals, it’s no wonder they’ve gained a massive following and most notably achieved several hits on the New Zealand music charts. They are currently on their biggest tour around Australia promoting their new track Honey Dance With Me and will hit the Metro City stage for their homecoming show. It’s impossible not to have a huge grin while listening to their music and their uplifting stage presence is something to witness. Who cares about winter when you’ve got Coterie’s music to warm you up?
