Exploring Perth's city laneways

Prince Lane

A minute’s walk east of Shafto Lane along Murray St, check out Prince Lane to get some snaps of the street art. The main mural is a collab between multiple artists representing the fashion history of King Street (which runs parallel to the laneway). Don’t miss Stormie Mills’ “Lost Giant” under the striking entry sign at the Wellington Street corner, then head down to Prince Lane Bar at the Murray Street end for a pub meal or a drink on the rooftop.

Wolf Lane

Bending from Murray Street (near the Queen Street intersection) south to King Street, Wolf Lane is also home to some of Perth’s best pieces of street art, plus several spots to enjoy a bite or beverage by day or by night.

If you’re there in the morning, visit The Wolf Espresso for your caffeine fix (and take home a bag of their locally roasted coffee beans) and Toastface Grillah for one of the most epic toasties you’ll ever eat.

After dark, you must try Wolf Lane bar to sip their storybook-themed cocktails in a vintage-inspired setting. Just across the lane you’ll also find Cheeky Sparrow serving up delicious drinks and pizzas.

Howard Lane

Hidden away off Howard Street between St Georges Terrace and Elizabeth Quay, Howard Lane is the ideal laneway to visit on date night. You’ll find two long-time members of Perth’s small bar scene here: Andaluz Bar & Tapas and Helvetica. Both are perfect places to get cosy with some cocktails and light bites.

Nicks Lane (Northbridge)

It may not look like there’s much down Nicks Lane (between Roe Street and James St in Northbridge), but head down and you’ll spot some Insta-worthy street art. See if you can find Sneaky Tony’s, a speakeasy-style hidden rum bar (psst… you’ll need a password for entry on Friday and Saturday nights, so check their social media).

Lion Walk (Northbridge)

More open and sunny than your average laneway, Lion Walk (off Aberdeen Street in Northbridge) is the perfect place for an outdoor brunch - and that’s what the clever folk at Flora & Fauna offer. This cafe has been a long-time Perth favourite serving oh-so-pretty vegan meals and mouth-watering sweet treats out of a little hole in the wall, with tables filling the alley outside. They’ve recently opened an indoor space just down the lane as well, so you can enjoy a meal even on the most wintery of days!
