La Bayadère
West Australain Ballet presents La Bayadère - The Temple Dancer.
Renowned for its demanding choreography, Greg Horsman’s reimaging of this classic tale delivers equal parts drama and romance.
First performed in 1877 by the Russian Imperial Ballet, La Bayadère is part of the suite of classical ballet's from renowned choreographer Marius Petipa, which includes The Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake.
West Australian’s Ballet's updated version places the action in India under the rule of the British Raj, and focusses on the powerful, but doomed love between Prince Solor and Nikiya - the temple dancer.
This ballet has something for everyone, a passionate love story for the romantics at heart, and exquisite pas de deux sequences, solos and a fascinating variety of ensemble dances.
Live at His Majesty’s Theatre with West Australian Symphony Orchestra. A co-production between West Australian Ballet, Queensland Ballet and Royal Winnipeg Ballet
