His Majesty’s Theatre in Perth.

His Majesty's Theatre

There's few things in life more glorious than a night at the opera or a decadent evening enjoying the ballet at one of Perth's oldest and most fascinating theatres.

His Majesty's Theatre is the perfect venue to catch first class events ranging from comedy, drama and dance to a night at the opera or an evening of cabaret, Downstairs at the Maj.

Patrons can also meet in the gorgeous foyer bar of the building for a drink before performances and submerge themselves in a treasure trove of theatre history at the Museum of Performing Arts, open weekdays 10am to 4pm.

The iconic Theatre was built by German-born building contractor Friederich Wilhelm Gustav Liebe in 1904.

Liebe (1862–1950) was born in Wittenberg, Germany and had worked on the construction of the Budapest Opera House and the parliament house in Bulgaria.

Accustomed to construction in the grand style, he erected some of Perth's most impressive buildings, including Queen's Hall in 1899 (which still exists on the corner of William and Murray Streets), His Majesty's Theatre (1904) and the original art gallery building on Beaufort Street (1908).
