The City of Perth is the place to be this Australia Day, with so many diverse events across the day for everyone to enjoy and celebrate the beautiful, multicultural country we’re proud to call home.
Reflect. Respect. Celebrate. in the city at the 2026 Hancock Prospecting Australia Day. Join us from 3pm on Langley Park for an array of vibrant entertainment, with fun for all ages and adrenaline levels. An amazing spectacle of drones and fireworks will light up Perth’s skyline and wow crowds from 8:30pm.
Australia Day also marks the City of Perth’s largest Citizenship Ceremony where this year we welcome 71 new Australian citizens hailing from 31 countries across the world to their new home. The Ceremony will also honour our local heroes through the Community Citizen of the Year Awards.
Attendees are encouraged to familiarise themselves with road closures and plan their travel to and from the event accordingly.

Road closures remain in effect until approximately 11pm, with the exception of Kings Park which will reopen at 9:30pm. Roads may be reopened earlier if it is safe to do so.
Towing
Towing will be enforced for this event. Any vehicles that do not comply with the parking and access restrictions may be infringed and/or towed at the owner’s expense. No vehicle entry or exit will be permitted for properties or businesses within the road closure areas, and driveways may be blocked as part of the approved Hostile Vehicle Mitigation Strategy and Traffic Management Plans.
River Closures
To ensure the safe operation of the Light Show, a section of the Swan River will be closed from 2pm – 12am on Monday 26 January for this event. A Temporary Notice to Mariners will be issued by the Department of Transport. If you plan to attend by boat, please visit transport.wa.gov.au for full details. Additional information will be updated closer to the event. -

Free sunscreen can be obtained by visiting the First Aid Posts at Langley Park West and Supreme Court Gardens.
When enjoying the outdoors, it is also important to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and heat stroke.
The City of Perth is aiming for an event that is ‘single-use plastic free’ and encourages all patrons to bring their water bottles and refill them at the cool and free drinking water locations throughout the event area.

Can you view the show from other areas along the Swan River / South Perth / Kings Park?The drone segment of the light show is specifically designed for viewing from the main event site and will not be visible from locations such as South Perth or Kings Park. Watching from these areas may give the impression of a delay, as the fireworks, featured in the second part of the show, may still be visible.
If viewing the fireworks from outside Langley Park, audiences will not be able to hear the narrated soundtrack or access event facilities. Additionally, you will not receive any updates to the event schedule, which are communicated via audio announcements or digital screens at the Langley Park site.

How do I get to the event?
Visitors are advised to check road closures in advance and plan their journey accordingly. Where possible, attendees are encouraged to travel via public transport. For those driving into the city, a road closure map and car park information will be available on the VisitPerth website.

Important: Buses and trains will be busy after the show ensuring you and your family get home safely. Delays are expected, so your patience is appreciated.

Is the event’s soundtrack broadcasted?Yes, it will be. Please tune into FM frequency 89.3 to hear the event’s soundtrack. Please note the broadcast will only reach within a 5 km radius of Langley Park.

More Information
Is this a licensed event?
No, the event is not licensed. However, Langley Park (bound by Terrace Road, Plain Street, Victoria Avenue), and the section of the Swan River foreshore and grassed area directly opposite Langley Park (between Victoria Avenue and Plain Street) will operate as a BYO Picnic Zone from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.
Limited alcohol consumption will be permitted within this designated area under the following Conditions of Entry:- Operates between 6:30pm and 9pm on Monday 26 January 2026.
- Adults (18+) can be in possession of a maximum of one six-pack of beer or mixed drinks, or one bottle of wine per adult within the nominated area.
- Alcohol consumption outside these hours or outside the BYO zone is not allowed.
Where is the closest ATM / Are EFTPOS facilities available?
Several banks with ATMs are located along St Georges Terrace, just a short walk from Langley Park. Most food vendors also accept EFTPOS payments.

What is the best viewing location for this event?
The drone and fireworks display will take place over the Swan River, directly in front of Langley Park.
For the best experience, the City of Perth recommends viewing from Langley Park and Riverside Drive Foreshore.

What accessibility and inclusion services are available at the event?
First Aid Posts
Two first aid posts are available at the event, located at the western end and in central Langley Park. A dedicated St John Ambulance team will be on site to respond to any medical incidents.
Lost Persons Point
Two Lost Persons Points are available at the event, located at the western end and in central Langley Park. On arrival, visit the Lost Persons Point or the event information tent to collect a free wristband for your children from the Constable Care Foundation team. We also recommend noting what everyone in your group is wearing or taking a group photo at the start of the event.
Accessible Viewing Area
A dedicated, enclosed Accessible Viewing Area will be located on the Riverside Drive Foreshore, offering a less crowded space with priority views for people living with disability. Limited seating will be provided. We recommend arriving before 7pm, as surrounding areas can become crowded and make access more difficult.
Wheelchair users should note that the Accessible Viewing Area includes both hardstand and grassy sections. Alternatively, the light show can be enjoyed from anywhere along Riverside Drive, which will be closed to traffic, or from the dual foreshore footpaths, both providing options to stay close to friends and family on grass if desired.Auslan Interpreting Services
Auslan interpreters will be available during the light show segment of the Hancock Prospecting Australia Day event from 8:30pm to 9pm. These services will be provided at the Accessible Viewing Area on Riverside Drive Foreshore, as indicated on the event map.
Audio Description Services
Audio description services will be available during the light show segment of the Hancock Prospecting Australia Day event from 8:30pm to 9pm. These services will be provided at the Accessible Viewing Area, on Riverside Drive Foreshore as indicated on the event map.

A welcoming space with bean bags, iPads and art activities, supported by DADAA staff. Staff are on hand to assist, making this a comfortable place to relax and recharge.
Sensory Space
A large, accessible, purpose-built container offering a calming environment for people with sensory processing needs, managed by the WA All Abilities Football Association.
Baby Changing Facilities
A marquee with baby changing facilities is located in Langley Park, opposite the Carnival Rides.
Changing Places
The nearest Changing Places facility (MLAK key access) is at Elizabeth Quay, opposite the Elizabeth Quay Water Park, and features an accessible toilet, adult-sized change table, hoist, and space for assistants.
Wheelchair Access (Accessible Matting and Ramps)
Accessible matting from Victoria Avenue provides access to the Sensory Space and Quiet Zone.
With Riverside Drive and surrounding roads closed to traffic, wheelchair users can easily access and move around the event site from ACROD parking at the Supreme Court or nearby public transport stations. Temporary ramps will also be installed along Riverside Drive, providing access from Langley Park and the Terrace Road carpark grass area to the foreshore.
These locations will be clearly marked with flag banners on the city side of the river, featuring the universal wheelchair symbol. The banners are designed to be visible from a distance, helping wheelchair users locate ramp access points.ACROD Parking
Temporary ACROD parking will be available at the Supreme Court of Western Australia south car park, accessible via Barrack Street until 2:30pm (subject to availability). Refer to the Road Closure Map and look for the ACROD icon.
A valid ACROD parking permit must be presented at entry. Once parked, vehicles cannot leave until roads reopen after the event (approximately 11pm) however, ACROD permit holders will be given priority when exiting. -
Will first aid be available at the event?Yes, two First Aid Posts will be located on-site. Please refer to the event map for the exact location.

Will there be Lost Persons services at the event?Yes, two Lost Persons Posts, staffed by the Constable Care Foundation will be available. Please refer to the event map to locate it ahead of time.
If you lose someone
Please notify the nearest security officer, Police, or event staff and go to the closest Lost Persons Point. If the person is not already there, Constable Care Foundation staff will coordinate with event security to help locate them.
If you find a lost person
Please escort them to the nearest Lost Persons Point, or advise the nearest Police officer or event security, who will assist in taking them there.

What other event services and amenities are available?
Food Vendors
A large range of food trucks will be available throughout the event site.
Drinking Water
Drinking water fountains and water bottle refilling stations are available at the event site. Please refer to the event map for their locations. Bottled water will be available for purchase from food vendors on site, however we encourage patrons to bring their own water bottles.
Waste Stations
The City of Perth is working with Closed Loop to minimise the events waste footprint, you can learn about waste management and sustainability while disposing of your rubbish. Take your trash to the waste stations, where dedicated staff will assist you in sorting and disposing of it correctly, helping to maintain a low-waste event.
There will be many waste bins located around the event, meaning there will be one close to where you are sitting, walking, or celebrating! Don’t forget to pay attention to the signs on the bins and put your rubbish or recycling in the correct bin.
Toilets (Including Accessible and All Gender)
Permanent and temporary toilet facilities are available throughout the event site.
