The Perth Mint

Inside these historic premises, opened in 1899, tour guides introduce The Perth Mint's world-class Exhibition and its journey of gold discovery. Visitors encounter gold nuggets, hold more than $1 million worth of gold, and see some of the most famous coins and medals ever made in Australia.

Pride of place on entry goes to the One Tonne Gold Coin, inspired by the enduring popularity of the Australian Kangaroo Gold Bullion Coin Series. Made from 99.99% pure gold and a value of more than $150 million, the colossal piece won the title of the ‘largest gold coin’ by Guinness World Records.

Unique examples of Western Australia’s gold and silver heritage, ‘The Karratha Queen’ and ‘King Henry’ are two of the world’s largest and most valuable precious metal specimens.

Having enjoyed these dazzling showpieces, the guide will demonstrate a live gold pour in the original Melting House. It’s an awe-inspiring spectacle as molten gold is transformed into a gleaming solid gold bar.

Visit The Perth Mint Shop where you’ll find gifts, souvenirs, collector coins, and bullion trading. Then explore The Perth Mint Jewellery Boutique which showcases many of Australia’s most precious natural treasures in a curated collection of exquisite gemstones and jewellery, including rare Argyle Pink DiamondsTM, South Sea pearls, Australian opals and unique gold nugget jewellery.
