From Colonial to Contemporary: Chronicles of the House on the Hill | Parliament of Western Australia
Did you know that Parliament House once sat alfresco by lowering the windows to each chamber to invite the sea breeze in? Or that there are fossilised sea creatures embedded in the building's external masonry? How about the fact that there are a number of handcrafted maali (black swans) depicted throughout its interior?
A myriad of artisans contributed to the creative beauty that is Western Australia's Parliament house. Discover the ornate leadlight windows, marvel at the old-world charm of the Parliamentary Library, hear about refurbishment that supports a fully functioning Parliament in a heritage listed building, and view extensive Aboriginal artworks from throughout the state — all at your Parliament.
