Unique Date Ideas in Perth

DATING IN THE CITY
Planning a date night? While something standard like a dinner is great, sometimes it's nice to do something a little unique, out of the ordinary and not your stock-standard date night activity.

Luckily for us, Perth is brimming with options for interesting and different date ideas, from cooking classes and competitive sports, to picnics and rooftop drinks.

So to help you plan a memorable night with the apple of your eye, here are some of our favourite unique date ideas in Perth city.

Learn about food and drinks

Going out for food and drinks is a pretty stock-standard date idea, but what about learning about it instead? Salt & Company Cooking School in West Perth run cooking classes on a range on cuisines, including Greek Mezethes, Mexican Street Food and Japanese Izakaya, where their knowledgeable teachers take the group through the prep and cooking, and you all feast together at the end. Whipper Snapper Distillery run tours and masterclasses at their impressive urban whiskey distillery in East Perth, where you and your date can learn everything about how its made, as well as sample some of their award-winning whiskey.

Enjoy a laid-back picnic

If a casual, relaxed date is more your kind of thing, pack up a picnic basket to impress your date (Northbridge’s Kakulas Brother or The Re Store have great picnic supplies) and head to one of the city’s many parks. If you want views, perching yourself somewhere along Fraser Avenue in Kings Park is a no-brainer, as is heading to the grassed area of Matilda Bay along Hackett Drive. Queen’s Gardens in the CBD also offers tranquil spots for a date, as well as West Perth’s Harold Boas Gardens.

Get a little competitive

If you know your date enjoys some good healthy competition, then why not incorporate that into your evening? Holey Moley in Northbridge provides fun mini-golf courses, where you can also order drinks to lighten the mood. Amplifier Bar on Murray Street has a downstairs bowling alley where you can challenge your date to some ten-pin fun. Varsity Bar on Aberdeen Street has pool, table tennis or some good old fashioned arcade games. And if you’re really organised, Donnie Taco in West Perth has a basketball court available for hire if you feel like taking on your date in a game of one-on-one.

Have rooftop drinks

Nothing is more romantic than a rooftop, so instead of going for just regular drinks, go for rooftop drinks instead. In Northbridge, you can visit Mechanic’s Institute, The Rechabite or the bar at the top of Lucky Chan’s. If you’re city-way, try Hadiqa, The Rooftop at QT, Henry’s Rooftop at The Reveley or Bob’s Bar at Print Hall.

Catch a flick

Movies are a bit of an old-fashioned date idea these days, but there’s nothing wrong with injecting some retro feels into your evening - especially if it's at a lush cinema like some of the ones you’ll find in the city. The new Palace Cinemas in Perth city, perched at the top of Raine Square, provide a luxury cinema experience, with each of their nine theatres fitted with boutique screens and leather recliners. It also has four bespoke bars for a pre or post film tipple, and a rooftop terrace overlooking Yagan Square and Northbridge. If it’s summertime when you’re heading out on your date, you can’t go past the Rooftop Movies in Northbridge. Head up there early to get a drink and dinner from the on-site bar and food trucks while watching the sunset, then snuggle up on bean-bags underneath the stars with the lit-up city skyline in the background. If that doesn’t make you feel romantic, we don’t know what will.
