Scratch Studio: School Holidays at PICA during AWESOME Festival
Scratch Studio: School Holidays at PICA during AWESOME Festival
Step into Perth’s most exciting contemporary art gallery to scratch, scrape and reveal your way to an original artwork while discovering new ways to make, notice and wonder.
During AWESOME International Arts Festival for Bright Young Things, PICA presents Scratch Studio, a free space with many ways for you to explore art and creativity.
Make and connect. Visit the PICA Hub, a welcoming drop-in space for creative play. Discover sgraffito, a process used by artist Tali Koto to create designs by scratching through one surface to reveal colour underneath. Experiment with marks, lines, shapes and patterns on a postcard to keep or share. You can also build a 3D portrait from found objects, create poems with magnetic words, and cover everyday surfaces with your own designs.
Notice and reflect. Pick up your free copy of The Art of Noticing, a creative journal featuring activities designed by artists that encourage children and families to look closely, listen deeply and discover new ways of noticing the world around them.
Wonder and be inspired. Explore the Hatched National Graduate Show, an exhibition of artworks by emerging artists where you’ll encounter bold new ideas, unexpected materials and the future of Australian contemporary art.
Drop in for five minutes or stay for an afternoon. Try one activity or explore them all!
