Misaki Umei | Tenors in Chaos Double Bill

Co-presented by The Japan Foundation, Japan Jazz Nights brings together two of the most exciting forces in contemporary Japanese jazz for an evening of creativity, virtuosity and cultural exchange.

Recently named one of Rolling Stone Japan’s “Future of Music” artists, pianist and composer Misaki Umei is redefining contemporary jazz. Blending dazzling technique with adventurous composition and influences from classical, jazz and experimental music, Umei represents the next generation of Japanese musical creativity.

Tenors in Chaos features three of Japan’s acclaimed tenor saxophonists – Akihiro Nishiguchi, Tomoaki Baba and Yu Kuga. Known for their explosive energy, dynamic interplay and genre-defying sound, the trio has become one of Japan’s most talked-about jazz acts. Joined by local pianist Tim Voutas and an elite rhythm section, expect a thrilling, high-energy performance.
