Open Studios: Yen Yen Ho + Thu Van Tran
This Bunuru season, PICA is thrilled to host Yen Yen Ho (Taipei) and Thu Van Tran (Paris) as part of our International Artist Exchange Program. Throughout their residencies, both artists will open their studios, offering an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at their creative processes and research.
Yen Yen Ho’s project uncovers hidden cultural connections between Taipei and Australia, drawing on her background as an archaeology assistant to intertwine history and contemporary art. Thu Van Tran will experiment with ceramics and locally sourced earth, exploring the transformative power of fire within the Australian landscape.
Join us for this special opportunity to meet the artists, hear about their work, and enjoy a late-night viewing of our current Perth Festival exhibitions, Oui Move in You by Laure Prouvost, In Her Footsteps: A Tribute to Matrilineal Legacy curated by Hannah Mathews and Birradali Dancing on the Horizon by Bhenji Ra.

About the artists
Yen Yen Ho lives in Taipei, Taiwan. Her works are often inspired by personal experience through observations of the present. With a background in science, specifically astronomy and geography, she presents the metaphorical state of mind through her artworks. Ho works with installation, video, sculpture and painting. Known for creating sites with a narrative atmosphere and objects evoked from memories and emotions, she aims to capture the connections and breaks between reality and fiction by reconstructing and examining spatial-temporal experiences. Ho’s works have been exhibited at the Taipei Fine Art Museum, Jeju 4.3 Peace Park Memorial Hall, Keelung Museum of Art and Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts. In 2023 she completed a residency in Seoul Art Space, Geumcheon, Korea.
Thu Van Tran was born in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and now lives and works in Paris, France. Over the past twenty years, she has developed a wide-ranging body of work whose cosmic dimension is evident in her sculptural installations, monumental frescoes and filmed narratives. She was recently announced as one of 16 Villa Medici Fellows for 2025-26.
In 2017, Thu Van distinguished herself with a remarkable installation at the Venice Biennale in the international exhibition curated by Christine Macel and in 2018 she was nominated for the Marcel Duchamp Prize. In 2022 she completed a major site-specific commission at Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Museum of Art and most recently has exhibited at the Bourse de Commerce, Pinault Collection. Her works currently feature in several local and international public collections, including the prestigious Collection of the MNAM, Musée National d’Art Moderne – Centre Georges Pompidou (France), the Collection of Frac-Île de France (France), the Fondation Louis Vuitton (France), Pinault Foundation (France), Beaux-Arts Paris (France), the Museum of the Louvre Abu- Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) and the Collection of the Fondation Kadist (France/United-States).
