Memento: WA history reimagined through contemporary fashion
Memento: WA history reimagined through contemporary fashion
Contemporary fashion and historical collections are displayed side by side in this exhibition inspired by artefacts and mementos carefully selected from the History West (the Royal Western Australian Historical Society) collection.
The changing patterns, captured memories and personal stories of Western Australian life reflected in the mementos have provided the inspiration for a new collection of garments created by North Metropolitan TAFE design students. Working with digital pattern making techniques, students have created garments that are a contemporary reinterpretation and retelling of the past. Originally cherished for their personal associations, these mementos have sparked the imagination of a new generation.
This exhibition is displayed in the Town Hall Foyer.
