Bon Ton

Bon Ton was a popular cafe franchise in Perth from 1898 to the late 1940s. Its Wellington Street branch, on the corner of Barrack Street, became known for quality catering and tea rooms that were a welcoming and inclusive space for all.

The original site now forms part of the Fanny Balbuk Walk Trail, honouring her legacy as a Perth resistance fighter and recognising her commitment to the environment, her family and friendships.

Today, Bon Ton has been reimagined for a new generation. The spirit remains the same: well presented, quality, fresh food and coffee that is “consistently good every day”. The cabinet will have a rotating line up of sandwiches, rolls and wraps. Think Mortadella & Pistachio Focaccia, Cuban Sandwiches and a Slow Cooked Beef Burrito. And for something sweet, the counter is stacked with classic baked treats from Mary Street Bakery and Gather Bakehouse. The hot food offering centres on simple, crowd pleasing comforts with pizzas, house made sausage rolls and Bon Ton fries, served with a selection of specialty sauces including mango habanero and curry mayonnaise.

The café’s design draws on the optimism of mid-century modernism and reinterprets them for a contemporary campus setting. The design balances sophistication with approachability, creating a space that feels both elevated and welcoming.
