Love to Read Local Week
Love to Read Local Week returns to Western Australia from 3 – 11 June with Writing WA confirming a stellar and expanded line up of local literary talent, activities and events as part of the program.
Coinciding with WA Day celebrations, Love to Read Local is a week-long festival, established in 2020 by Writing WA, to showcase Western Australia’s many wonderful writers and illustrators, and the books and stories they create.
This year’s expanded program caters for writers and readers of all ages and backgrounds featuring children’s literary events, writing competitions, bookshop promotions and fiction workshops.
Event highlights include:
• Love to Read Local Children’s Literature Festival - presented by Writing WA and Paper Bird Children’s Books and Arts, these interactive workshops feature a range of WA children’s authors and are for kids of all ages. Held at Burswood Park on 6 and 7 June as part of WA Day 2021 Festival.
• Three flash fiction writing workshops will be held at Raine Square on 9, 10 and 11 June. These workshops will be hosted by local Perth publishers Night Parrot Press and are open to all skill levels.
• Read Local, Shop Local - readers can celebrate Love to Read Local Week by visiting participating bookshops and purchasing local titles. Stamps will be given for every local book purchase. Collect three stamps to go in the draw to win a stay at Doubletree by Hilton Perth Waterfront.
