Ashtanga Yoga Weekend Workshop with Dani Ceccarelli PhD
Yoga in Real Life - Friday 26 May 2023, 6.30-8.30pm
Moon Sequence: the gentle little sister of Primary Series, incorporating the principles of Ashtanga sequencing with emphasis on grounding, softening, taking pressure off the upper body and learning to let go. The practice will be followed by a conversation about integrating practice and life. Can we practice in a way that nourishes us? Can we take lessons from the mat into the day?
Back to Basics - Saturday 27 May, 9.30am-12.00pm
Pranayama and bhandas, followed by a leisurely guided journey through the Primary Series. Switch off your autopilot and approach the practice with curiosity and creativity.
Gateways - Saturday 27 Mary, 3.00-5.00pm
Each series in Ashtanga Yoga has a few postures that seem more challenging than the rest. These are gateways - to the rest of the sequence, to the next series, and also to parts of ourselves we tend to avoid. This workshop will be a combination of two approaches: modifying the postures to avoid injury, and building the components of the postures to bring us closer to their full expression.
Mysore Practice - Sunday 28 May, 7.00-8.50am
Self-guided practice to bring together all the aspects of the weekend. You are encouraged to take your time and explore the principles from the workshop.
Cost: $210 / $190 YS Members
*Earlybird pricing: 10% off price applied at checkout prior to 21 February
About Dani
Dani Ceccarelli grew up between Europe and the Middle East, with a childhood trajectory that took her from Italy to Syria to Switzerland. She always had a passion for movement and nature, and has combined a 25-year marine biology career with a daily yoga practice. Dani has been practicing yoga since 1996 and teaching since 2000. She discovered yoga after the birth of her first son in 1996, beginning with Hatha and Iyengar Yoga. In 1998 she found herself in an Ashtanga Yoga workshop and it was 'love at first sweat'. Since 2001 she travelled regularly to Mysore, India, and is authorized through the Sharath Yoga Centre as a Level II Ashtanga teacher.
Dani feels that the strong physical practice of Ashtanga Yoga has the potential to open the heart and calm the mind, enhancing self-awareness and overall wellbeing. Its repetitive nature offers a daily touchstone of our personal present moment. To learn how to adapt the practice to students' needs, Dani extended her studies to include Iyengar, Yoga-Synergy, Vinyasa and Hatha Yoga, and holds certification from the IYTA and Matthew Sweeney. Even though Ashtanga Yoga is a dynamic practice, it can be made accessible to many levels of physical ability, so that as many people as possible may benefit from this practice.
