Waste Less and Recycle More at Skyworks 2020

In 2019, the City of Perth Skyworks event saw record high recycling rates, with 70 per cent of waste diverted from landfill - let’s work together to make 2020 even better!
Through the great recycling and sustainability initiatives detailed below, the City of Perth is geared up to waste less and recycle more at Skyworks 2020.
Reducing plastic packaging
The 2020 Skyworks food vendors are supporting the City’s sustainability initiatives by minimising single-use plastic packaging and using compostable packaging to serve their food in.
Instead of harmful plastic, at Perth Skyworks you will see palm leaf and sugarcane plates, cardboard trays and paper bags, as well as wooden and corn-starch cutlery.
Compostable packaging can be placed in the green-lid food organics bins provided on Langley Park, and the City’s friendly bin station volunteers will help you recycle right.
Stay hydrated without the waste
Don’t forget to bring your reusable water bottle along on the day as water bottle Refill Stations will be placed around the Langley Park, Kings Park, Sir James Mitchell Park and the Supreme Court Gardens to allow you to refill your drink bottle at no cost.
Did you know, by switching to a reusable water bottle, you can save on average $1000 each year!
Why waste it? When you can compost it.
On Langley Park, you will be able to recycle your food waste by using the City of Perth green-lid Food Organics bins. All food scraps and compostable packaging can go into these bins, where it will be composted and reused in WA.
Recycling Rewards
Paper and magazines, cardboard and cartons, plastic bottles/containers, aluminium/steel cans and glass bottles can all be recycled in the yellow-lid Comingled Recycling bins.
To prepare WA for the upcoming Container Deposit Scheme, WALGA, funded by the State Government, are providing all Skyworks patrons with the opportunity to receive cash for their beverage containers.
Visit the Containers for Change tent located in front of Terrace Road carpark to receive 10c per eligible beverage container.
Donating Quality Items
Each year the City finds many quality items left behind after the event. In 2020, instead of going to landfill, these items will go to the Good Samaritans, and a tent will be located in front of Terrace Road carpark for any donations.
Help us to make a sustainable future possible and keep our beautiful foreshore clean but putting all your rubbish in the correct bins as you leave Skyworks. With your help, we can recover even more recycling at Skyworks 2020 and minimise waste taken to landfill.
