Another year is done and dusted, and what a wild ride it’s been! Western Australians should be proud of themselves for their efforts to keep everyone safe and also for the support we've shown live gigs throughout 2021. Next year with restrictions easing, we should see an influx of international and interstate artists but until then some killer gigs are happening across the silly season and there’s no better time to let loose and check out some amazing artists. Merry Christmas, stay safe and I’ll see you on the other side of 2022!

Gyroscope

One of the legends of the Western Australian music scene is the unstoppable Gyroscope, and on the cusp of heading into the studio for their fifth album, they’ve decided to get the led out and perform a couple of gigs in Perth and down South before the end of the year. Known for their energetic shows, the indie-rock band has promised that this gig is all about having an epic time and will be the perfect way to kick off the holiday festivities.

Lonesome Dove EP Launch “Awwww”

Hear some fantastic local music and support an up-and-coming band by checking out Lonesome Dove’s EP launch for “Awwww”. The band are purveyors of indie-rock, big driving guitars and three-part harmonies. Their songs have that great gritty feel of indie-rock that Perth bands do so well, infused with a cheeky personality that reminds us of 90s alt-groups like The Breeders, Sonic Youth and The Pixies. Joining them on the night will be mates Didions Bible and Baba! Yaga!

New Year’s Eve Matinee Concert 2021

Start your New Years Eve early with this lovely concert that is fit for everyone in the family, young and old, or for those who are looking to kick off their New Years Eve fun early. Perth Concert Hall will be presenting several internationally celebrated and rising WA artists who in collaboration with Musical Director Mark Coughlan and the Vienna Pops Orchestra will be performing a concert of uplifting and beautiful music that will charm anyone of any age.

Rap and Hip Hop fans get ready because this gig is your hot ticket for the month. My favourite venue of alt-acts is hosting a night dedicated to Eminem’s seminal ‘The Marshall Mathers’ LP. Featuring a six-piece band with some of your favourite Perth musicians, the group will be performing the album in its entirety live! If you haven’t been to a rap gig that has used live instrumentation then this is not to be missed as it’s a completely different and electric vibe.

Jessie Gordon: Swinging into 2022

The unstoppable Jessie Gordon will be bringing her effervescent spirit to The Ellington to ring in the new year. Jessie is one of Perth’s best jazz singers having performed all over the world. At The Ellington, she’ll be presenting a show of some of the best jazz and blues songs from icons like Louis Armstong, Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie and Duke Ellington. Joining her will be her familiar cohorts Jon Matthews on guitar, Karl Florisson on double bass and Michael Perkins on drums. Tickets also include a welcome drink and tasting plate, so if you are looking for a New Years Eve that avoids the stress and craziness of lines, crowds and warm drinks then this is my perfect and fabulous pick to bid 2021 adieu.
