Burswood Park

Whether it is a picnic with family, or a Saturday morning walk with friends, Burswood Park has something for everyone. Less than five kilometres from the city, the Park is home to landscaped parklands, local fauna, picnic areas and playgrounds and is well connected with footpaths and bike paths.

For kids, there is plenty of room to kick a football or play in one of the playgrounds. For friends, take a walk along the foreshore, which boasts city views, and check out many of Perth’s premier destinations in the area, including the Matagarup Bridge, Optus Stadium and Crown Perth.

Burswood Park is also home to a heritage trail, containing a unique collection of bronze sculptures, designed and produced by artists Joan and Charles Smith.

Sister City Plaque
Victoria Park Drive Great Eastern Highway, Burswood
On 23 April 1974, Japanese city Kagoshima entered into a sister-city relationship with Perth to promote goodwill and peace among the nations of Australasia.

To commemorate this, a plaque was laid within Burswood Parklands, and the Kagoshima Park Gardens if seen as a living symbol of the bond.

When the Mayor of Kagoshima visits Perth, a native Australian tree is planted in Burswood Park to commemorate the relationship.
Oushi Zokei 2013

Oushi Zokei 2013 is a two metre Spanish black granite artwork on the banks of the Swan River. The artist Keizo Ushio is one of Japan’s most highly regarded sculptors and is renowned internationally for his extraordinary granite sculptures. His ingenious carving technique, based on the mathematics of the Moebius strip, is extremely difficult to realise in granite, making his work popular with the public and collectors across the world.
Citizen of the Year Podium

In recognition for Western Australia`s prestigious Citizen of the Year awards, the names of awardees are displayed on the plaques fixed to the cobbled limestone edge of the adjoining dais. Overlooking the lake and with views of the surrounding parklands, this is just one of many cultural stops scattered throughout Burswood Park.
Swan Shell
Resort Dr, Burswood WA
Designed in 2000 by Charlie and Joan Smith, the Swan Shell is designed to reflect the movement of a swan in flight. The structure of the Swan Shell soars 22 metres above the surrounding Burswood parklands. It is a landmark for visitors and a popular venue for weddings, concerts and outdoor events.
The Sound of Earth: Physical Seat IX

Made from granite, Wataru Hamasaka's piece is more than just a sculpture. The hollowed-out areas are used to create sound - so visitors can feel the tonal reverberations on the inner walls of the seat.

Wataru Hamasaka's The Sound of Earth: Physical Seat IX was an exhibit in the renowned Sculpture by the Sea exhibition at Cottesloe Beach in 2014 - and at Bondi Beach in 2007 and 2011.

A multi-award winner, the work was the grand prize winner at the Contemporary Sculpture Exhibition in Hyuga Miyazaki Green Park in Japan in 2004, and received a Special Selection Award at the Busan Biennale Sea Art Festival in South Korea in 2011.
