Boorloo Heritage Festival

The City of Perth will host Boorloo Heritage Festival for the month of April 2023. 

Boorloo is the Whadjuk Nyoongar name for the area known as Perth and the City of Perth recognises the Whadjuk Nyoongar peoples as the traditional owners of the land. 

Boorloo Heritage Festival celebrates Boorloo (Perth) city’s unique natural, built and cultural heritage. It aims to celebrate our rich cultural diversity and inspire a sense of pride and belonging to a shared cultural heritage. 

The opportunity

The City of Perth is seeking submissions for events and activities throughout its neighbourhoods for Boorloo Heritage Festival, celebrating our natural, built, and cultural heritage, including:

  • Aboriginal storytelling and cultural experiences
  • History and heritage walks
  • Exhibitions
  • Lectures, workshops and panel talks
  • Digital, VR and immersive experiences
  • Behind the scenes tours of iconic heritage buildings
  • Children’s and family activities
  • Historic dance, costume, art, music and sporting events
  • Clubs and community groups events
  • Traditional foods and beverage events
  • Traditional crafts and heritage conservation workshops 
  • Multicultural history of Perth events 
  • Heritage photography workshops
  • Heritage building, parks, gardens, and natural environment experiences

Your events and activities will be advertised and promoted through a City of Perth marketing campaign for Boorloo Heritage Festival.

The Festival encourages events and activities that showcase the City’s diverse communities and support the City’s vision and aspirations for the future. City of Perth plans can be viewed on the City of Perth website. This includes our Strategic Community Plan, Reconciliation Action Plan, LGBTQIA+ Plan 2021-2024, Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2021-2025, Events Plan 2022-23 and the Cultural Development Plan 2019-2029.

  • Where does Boorloo Heritage Festival take place?

    Boorloo Heritage Festival will take place throughout the unique neighbourhoods within the City of Perth, with an opportunity to celebrate a neighbourhood each weekend throughout the month of April 2023. 

    A framework to highlight Perth’s neighbourhoods is outlined below, and we encourage participants to host their events and activities in these areas for the dates prescribed. Events and activities will take place across all neighbourhoods for all dates in April, and this framework is provided as a guide only.

    Weekend 1 (1st -2nd April) – Crawley-Nedlands Neighbourhood
    Weekend 2 (8th - 9th April) – Central Perth Neighbourhood
    Weekend 3 (15th – 16th April) – East Perth/Claisebrook Neighbourhoods
    Weekend 4 (22nd -23rd April) – West Perth (Including Kings Park) Neighbourhood
    Weekend 5 (29th -30th April) – Northbridge Neighbourhood

  • Where can I host my event/activity for Boorloo Heritage Festival?

    You may already be part of an organisation or business within the neighbourhoods of Perth or know where you would like to hold your event.

    The City of Perth also offers booking of its spaces, such as the Perth Town Hall, City of Perth Library, Forrest place or its many parks, gardens and reserves. To enquire into the City of Perth managed spaces, see our Services.

  • Apply for Boorloo Heritage Festival

    Applicants should submit the following information.

    1. Complete the Request for Proposal form.
    2.  Attach supporting materials
    • Pictures/videos of the proposed event/activity.
    • Pictures/videos and/or links to previous works or performances.
    •  Certificates of insurance.

    Submissions open 1 October and close 30 November 2022
    Successful applicants will be notified from October to December 2022

  • Support

    There are a few different ways that your event/activation can be supported for Boorloo Heritage Festival. The City of Perth has grant and sponsorship opportunities open throughout the year. To read more about the opportunities, visit the City of Perth’s Grants and Sponsorships page.

  • Eligibility

    Events and activities should aim to celebrate Perth’s natural, built and cultural heritage in entertaining, engaging and interactive ways.

    All events must abide by the City of Perth Event Guidelines
