XR:WA Path 99 – Full Dome Planetarium Experience

A unique combination of art, science & Earth that shows us how now – more than ever – it is crucial that we all have our head in the clouds.

Path 99 is a new project produced in collaboration with NZ composer Dugal McKinnon. It is designed for full-dome planetarium projection and had its world premiere at the 2021 New Zealand International Film Festival (NZIFF) and its Australian premiere at the 2022 World Science Festival in Brisbane in March 2022.

Path 99 uses satellite images of clouds to highlight the importance of clouds to climate. Combining planetarium immersion with an enveloping electronic soundtrack, this project is a unique combination of art, science and the Earth. It shows us how now more than ever, it is crucial that we all have our heads in the clouds.

The project is underpinned by an ongoing collaboration with Geoscience Australia and the Digital Earth Australia satellite-imaging platform, and it also features data from the incredible Himawari weather satellite, run by the JMA and made available by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology. It also features the voice and research of leading climatologist Christian Jakob.

This screening will be introduced by its maker and XR:WA guest Grayson Bell. Join us for complimentary drinks and finger food before the screening.
