Writing Songs About Perth

Writing what you know, what you’ve seen, and where you’ve been; join us to learn how a walk through our city can turn into a song.

Writing Songs About Perth is a workshop with local folk musicians Alexander Turner and Be Gosper, also known as The Happy Girls. Suitable for anyone who wants learn about song writing, regardless of previous experience, The Happy Girls invite participants to explore writing and listening techniques, particularly those that engage with the spaces we inhabit and call home.

About The Happy Girls
The Happy Girls is the folk (in-and-out of focus) project of duo Alexander Turner and Be Gosper. The two work to expand each other’s poetry through intricately wound melody and song. Overarching vocal lines and bright guitar arrangements support wholesome lyrics, sharing their enjoyment of life’s everyday simplicities and stories. With guitars in hand and voices strong, they hope to sing your heart right home.

About the Youth Week WA KickstART Festival

Now in its ninth consecutive year, the Youth Week WA KickstART Festival offers young people aged 12 - 26 an extensive range of free workshops, performances, exhibitions, talks, special events, and new initiatives for 2019.

The Youth Week WA KickstART Festival 2019 is presented by Propel Youth Arts WA, and is funded by the State Government of Western Australia. The KickstART Festival is also supported by Lotterywest, the City of Perth, and the Perth Theatre Trust.
