
World Transplant Games 2023
The World Transplant Games are coming to Perth!
The World Transplant Games, the largest sporting event for transplant recipients in the world, are coming to Perth in April 2023. The Games will see the city painted orange as people from 60 countries around the world, come together to compete in 17 different sports over 7 days. Over 1500 athletes and their supporters are expected to come to Perth to celebrate life, through sport, providing living proof that organ and tissue donation gives people a second chance at life.
The Games comprises seven days competition in high exertion sports such as swimming, athletics, triathlon and cycling to low impact sports including tenpin bowling, table tennis and petanque. It’s open to both elite and social athletes from age four to over 80 who have had a lifesaving organ transplant as well as a special program for living donors and donor families.
The majority of events will take place at the sports hub of Mt Claremont. This includes:
- HBF Stadium - swimming and darts
- WA State Athletics Stadium - track and field
- Bendat Basketball Stadium - basketball, volleyball, and table tennis
- Gold Netball Centre - badminton
- UWA Sports Park - six-a-side football
- Wembley Golf Course - golf.
There are also other exciting venues including:
- Wanneroo Raceway for cycling, including a unique opportunity for the public to cycle on the track,
- Champion Lakes Regatta Centre for the triathlon
- State Tennis Centre
- Plus lawn bowls, tenpin bowling, squash and petanque.
But it’s not all sport! There will be an opening ceremony at Optus Stadium, including a parade of nations across Matagarup Bridge, and a special cultural night at the WA Museum. There are special community events including the Donate Life 5km Fun Run and Ride Wanneroo Community Cycle that anyone can be involved in.
