The Jews of Greece: Then and Now Exhibition
The Hellenic Community of Western Australia and the Jewish Community Council are very pleased to bring this remarkable photographic exhibition, The Jews of Greece: Then and Now to Perth.
The exhibition explores the history of one of the most ancient Jewish communities in the world.
The works of photographer Emmanuel Santos and documentary filmmakers Carol Gordon and Nathalie Cunningham provide an insight into the life of Romaniote Jews and the smaller groups of Ashkenazi Jews of Europe that constitute the Greek-Jewish community.
This community witnessed, experienced and influenced the beginnings of Christianity, the rise and falls of empires and the creation of the modern state. While the Holocaust left the community devastated, the ancient traditions and cultural practices of Greek Jews have been kept alive by the few who remain.
This exhibition is presented in partnership with the Jewish Community Council, with special thanks to Perth Expo Hire.
The Jews of Greece: Then and Now exhibition is a part of the Perth Greek Festival, presented by LiveLighter. Perth Greek Festival is supported by the Office of Multicultural Interests, Lotterywest and the City of Perth.
