The Australian String Quartet

The Australian String Quartet

Traverse time and place in an evening of exquisite music!

In this compelling program, the musicians of the Australian String Quartet – violinists Dale Barltrop and Francesca Hiew, violist Christopher Cartlidge and cellist Michael Dahlenburg – are joined by award-winning clarinettist, Dr Ashley Smith, for an uplifting performance of Mozart’s sublime Clarinet Quintet in A major. Written in 1789 for the famous Austrian clarinettist, Anton Stadler, this radiant work is full of light and virtuosity, and remains one of the composer’s most celebrated works.

From the fugal sounds of Neapolitan baroque to the homogenous harmonies of mid 20th century London, join the ASQ as they delve into the distinct sound-worlds of Alessandro Scarlatti and Benjamin Britten.

Since their last memorable appearance at St George’s Cathedral in November 2021, the award-winning quartet has been touring widely across Australia to great critical acclaim. You won’t want to miss this very special evening!
