Scribblers Festival Family Weekend

The 2021 Scribblers Festival Family Program features a suite of 26 Western Australian creatives and interstate talent that includes but is not limited to writers, illustrators, graphic novelists, musicians and slam poets.

Art and literary superstars such as Nanny Piggins creator R.A. Spratt, beloved illustrator Anna Walker, bestselling writer of the Nevermoor series Jessica Townsend, Young Adult favourites Amie Kaufman and Will Kostakis, and WA Australian of the Year Helen Milroy will take over the Festival’s new home at Subiaco Arts Centre for a weekend bursting with story battles, LEGO Masters, Book Doctors, Teen Podcasters and Creative Workshops.

From the Conversation Caravan, junior podcasters will navigate the airwaves and interview the Festival’s star authors and illustrators.

Festival favourite, the Golden Feather Hunt, has launched with over 15,000 feather bookmarks hidden within the pages of books in 130 libraries statewide. This year there is a single rare Sapphire Feather awaiting discovery in each library, plus five Golden, 20 Silver and thousands of ‘colour-in’ feathers to be found across Western Australia - all for the chance to win special prizes.

And finally, if that wasn’t enough to keep young people occupied, from 24 May - 20 June, Scribblers and Channel 9’s LEGO Masters Series 2 Winners Jackson Harvey and Alex Towler need your help. Following the success of the Festival’s prologue event, Jackson and Alex’s debut exhibition RELICS: Bricks of the New World, a handful of minifigs have escaped The Goods Shed in Claremont.

Scribblers is calling on the public to grab a Subiaco Street RELICS map and join the expedition to locate these minifigs in pop-up installations created by Jackson and Alex throughout the heart of Subiaco.

There will be a constant stream of walk-in activities throughout the weekend, but take note that booking is required for our free sessions in the Main Auditorium and The Studio at Subiaco Arts Centre.
