"Ripple Effect" Exhibition by George Aitken

The next exhibition to come to the Council House Foyer Gallery is Ripple Effect, an exhibition developed in partnership with KAMILĖ GALLERY (Cathedral Square and State Buildings) and featuring the neon artworks of Western Australian artist George Aitken.

The exhibition will open on 1 September and will run to 10 October 2023. The exhibition features a selection of Aitken's neon works, including new pieces created specifically for the show.

George has been studying the behaviour of reflective light and glass since 1983. Starting his career at Claude Neon WA, George has collaborated with numerous artists to deliver bold eye-catching works previously presented at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Fremantle Arts Centre, Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery and historic State Buildings.

The works translate through coloured fluorescent light, reflecting a spreading effect or series of consequences caused by a single action or event, like ripples expanding across water when an object is dropped into it.

The artist’s work presented in this exhibition ranges from individual wall-mounted constructions to large scale light sculptures as a testimony to his fascination with architecture and physics. This exhibition continues to reflect our partnerships with neighbouring arts and culture organisations and further celebrates our City of Lights status.
