NAIDOC Week: Whadjuk Stories Art Trail
Celebrate the rich history of Whadjuk culture this NAIDOC Week at Yagan Square.
Celebrate 50 years of NAIDOC Week with an outdoor art trail that brings Whadjuk stories to life. Wander the trail to uncover ancient stories that honour Yagan Square—and wider Boorloo—as a cultural place of gathering and leadership, where Whadjuk women shaped decision-making, education and community life. At its heart, this powerful celebration recognises the importance of place and the enduring connection between First Nations people and Country.
The art trail features artworks from four Whadjuk and Noongar artists: Linda Loo, Gertrina Hayden, Iesha Wyatt & Lea Taylor. Each artwork tells unique stories - from the legacy of resistance fighter Fanny Balbuk to the maternal spirit that connects generations through Country.
Yagan Square is proud to present this outdoor exhibition in celebration of this year’s NAIDOC Week theme ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy' – honouring the achievements of the past, legacy of our ancestors and empowering the strength of our young leaders.
