John Gill Perth’s Piano Man - Museum of Perth
Since his untimely death, John's family, friends and fans have continued a concerted effort for a permanent tribute in the Hay Street Mall, recognising his importance as a musician and busker, entertaining tens of thousands with his lively repertoire for almost 20 years.
What is less well-known is John's extensive international musical career across Europe and the United States. John was the first Australian Pianist to become an accredited Bosendorfer Concert Artist, placing him in the same ranks as other world-renowned pianists such as Stevie Wonder, Leonard Bernstein, and Andre Previn.
The Museum of Perth's exhibition, curated by Historian Joanne Hyland, brings together various strands of John's life including his early years, with never before published photos, videos, recording and personal items. We are grateful to all of John's friends, family and fans who have generously contributed to our exhibition.
