Haiku on Hay Poetry Competition 2025

It's time to start thinking about entering our annual Haiku on Hay Poetry Competition.

Get writing now and check back here to submit your entry from Tuesday 1 July 2025.

One entry per poet will be accepted.

Entries will only be accepted via a Microsoft Forms link, available here after 1 July 2025.

Finalists in all categories will receive certificates.

Terms and Conditions of Entry

The Haiku on Hay Poetry Competition is coordinated by the City of Perth Library and proudly supported by WA Poets Inc.

  • A maximum of one poem per poet can be submitted for judging.
  • This competition is for Haiku of three lines only and a maximum of 17 syllables.
  • All entries must be submitted via the Microsoft Forms link (available 1 July 2025). Poets are required to give their names and contact details for the winner/finalist announcement. We need your first name, surname, and preferred name. Any name published will use the first initial and surname format.
  • Entries must be previously unpublished, including social media platforms, and must not infringe on existing copyright.
  • All entries will be judged anonymously.
  • Prize winners will be notified by email once judging has concluded.
  • The judges' decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • Prizes will be presented at the 2025 Haiku on Hay Awards Night on Tuesday 26 August 2025 at the City of Perth Library.
  • All prize winners and finalists agree to have their entries with their preferred names featured on the City of Perth’s and WA Poets' promotional channels as appropriate.
  • Winning and finalist entries may be displayed at the City of Perth Library during September for all to enjoy.
  • City of Perth staff, contractors, and subcontractors are not eligible to enter.
  • WA Poets Inc. Committee members are not eligible to enter.
