Exhibitions on Screen | Snap Shot WA Music Photography from the Archive
Snap Shot is a collection of images representing the evolution of West Australian music and the scene surrounding it over the past 100 years or so.
The exhibition pays tribute to artists, audiences, and places central to music, showcasing the diversity and legacy of the music scene in WA. The images have been drawn from various sources, including the collections of WAM and the State Library, private collections, and the hard drives (and filing cabinets!) of many working photographers.
It also comes with a captivating soundtrack curated by several WA music industry icons, such as San Cisco, Dulcie, Dom Mariani, and Grace Barbé.
This year, Snap Shot features an incredible collection of images from iconic music photographer Tony Mott, recognized as Australia's premier rock photographer. Tony's photographic career began in 1983 after attending a performance by The Divinyls. One of the photos he took that night was chosen for a tour poster, leading to bands approaching Mott to shoot their gigs. Tony's photos have graced the covers of music magazines and album covers.
Snap Shot: WA Music Photography from the Archive is presented by WAM in partnership with the State Library of Western Australia. We extend our thanks and applause to each of the photographers behind these incredible images.
Snap Shot: WA Music Photography from the Archive screens nightly during WA Music Month, November 1 - 30.
