The Christmas Lights Trail has cemented itself as City of Perth's signature event, attracting families every year to marvel at the magical spectacle of light. 

Now in its sixth year, the Christmas Lights Trail 2022 covers 6km across the City of Light, over 46 summer evenings. Showcasing 35 unique large-scale light installations ranging from traditional Christmas icons and loveable Australian animals, to immersive projections on historic buildings. Enjoy festive entertainment and performances throughout the city every Friday and Saturday night.

The City of Perth is proud to host accessible and inclusive events.

  • Each venue is accessible to people who use wheelchairs, walking aids and who are accompanied with prams.

CPP: Citiplace Car Park (1 Roe Street, Northbridge)
         Includes 5 ACROD parking bays and an additional 5 temporary ACROD parking bays.
CPP: Roe Street Car Park (68 Roe Street, Northbridge)
CCP: Cultural Centre Car Park (2 Roe Street, Northbridge)
CPP: State Library Car Park (15 Francis Street, Northbridge)

Additional temporary ACROD bays will be reserved but subject to availability.

There are designated taxi ranks located around the central city for safe and convenient travel at 140 William Street (between Wellington and Murray Streets), in Northbridge on Melbourne Street (alongside Rosie O’Gradys), the Town Hall, Parmelia Hilton, Duxton Hotel, the Mercure Hotel, and the Melbourne Hotel.

Supervised taxi ranks operate on Friday and Saturday night on William Street in the CBD and Melbourne Street in Northbridge. Taxis can also be ordered from Perth’s major taxi companies which include:

Yellow Cabs – 13 19 24
Tricolour – 13 22 27
LCAB – 13 52 22

A taxi service is available for passengers with disabilities. This service operates 24 hours a day and it is recommended to book 24 hours in advance to avoid delays. The service can be booked on (08) 9333 3377.

You can also download the Uber and Ola apps to be picked up securely from anywhere in the city.

The closest train stations can be found at Perth Train Statiion, Wellington Street; and Elizabeth Quay Station, The Esplanade.

The closest accessible toilets can be found within Perth Cultural Centre & Yagan Square.

Baby change facilities can be found at Citiplace Rest Centre (situated in Perth Train Station on the upper level walkway on the corner of Barrack and Wellington Street, Perth).

Audio descriptions are available at trail stops to provide a detailed description of the installation for those with vision impairments. A QR code with braille will be available at various stop on the sign located by the installation. When you scan this QR code via your smartphone’s camera, you will be led to a webpage that will allow you to immediately play the Installation’s audio description.

*Maarakool Projections have a live narrative recording provided by the Mural Artist Kambarni that is played every night until late.

Rio Tinto Christmas Lights Trail - More Than Just Lights!

Visit the Christmas Lights Trail and enjoy free, festive entertainment and performances throughout the city every Friday and Saturday night from 18 November to 24 December. See below for some of the highlights to look out for! 

Santa appearances

Murray and Hay St Mall | Every Friday | 6pm to 9pm 
Council House | Every Saturday | 6pm to 8pm 
Northbridge | Every Saturday | 8pm to 9pm

Look out for Santa who will be spreading Christmas cheer every Friday night in the Malls. Visit Council House Foyer on Saturday nights for a Christmas photo and meet Santa before he’s whisked away on a magical rickshaw tour of Northbridge.

    Make the most of with the City’s free night-time parking whilst visiting the Rio Tinto Christmas Lights Trail, valid from 6pm at any CPP Car Park.

  • Council House Precinct
    Meet Santa Claus inside Council House for a photo every Saturday from 6pm to 8pm before he takes off on a rickshaw ride to Northbridge! Enjoy light-up hula-hoop workshops, complete a reindeer training obstacle course, and participate in the festive fun on the front lawn.

    Free Christmas Lights Walking Tours
    Every Friday, Saturday & Sunday night | 2 December, 4 December to 24 December | Meet at Council House | 7pm to 8:30pm

    Join our bespoke Christmas Lights Trail Tours delivered for free by iCity volunteers. This special route is great for families or couples out on the town and looking to learn about Perth’s history along the way. Meet outside Council House at 7pm. 
  • Perth Cultural Centre
    Join a silent disco walking tour to experience the lights trail in a new and fun way, snap an Elfie selfie, play with giant bubbles and lots more festive surprises! Enjoy your favourite Christmas carols performed by roving acapella groups Perth Harmony Choir on Saturday 10 & 17 December and Tuxedo Junction Choir on Friday 16 December.

    Silent Disco Walking Tours
    Friday 2 & 23 December | Perth Cultural Centre | 6pm to 9pm

    Join a free Silent Disco walking Tour in the Perth Cultural Centre every hour, on the hour between 6pm to 9pm. These tours will take you through Northbridge to visit some of the Christmas Lights Trail installations. Everyone wears headphones tuning in to a hilarious guided tour through a playlist of uplifting dance favourites from the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s as well as some seasonal Xmas songs. Fun for all ages! No bookings required, 50 people capacity per tour. Meet outside WA Museum Boola Bardip at 6pm, 7pm or 8pm.

    Free Flicks for Kids
    Every Saturday 19 November to 17 December | Northbridge Piazza | 6pm

    Featuring something for everyone with kid-friendly flicks. Arrive early to grab a beanbag, dinner and enjoy pre-film entertainment from 5pm before the movies start at 6pm. 
  • Yagan Square
    Festive performers and music will pop un in Yagan Square to delight you every weekend! Participate in family friendly workshops including Bubbleology, a reindeer training obstacle course, circus play, and light up hula hoops. 

    AUSLAN Christmas Storytime
    Friday 2 & 16 December, Saturday 3 & 17 December | Yagan Square | 6pm to 8pm

    Join AUSLAN Christmas Storytime at Yagan Square lawn area this December. Meet deaf Santa and his helpers as they share Christmas stories with you and teach you some AUSLAN signs. Fun for all ages, suitable both for families who speak AUSLAN and those who are learning.

    New Sounds Volume Three
    Friday 9 December | Yagan Square Amphitheatre | 6pm to 9pm

    New sounds is a four part youth music series presented by Propel Youth Arts WA, spotlighting emerging young musicians and DJ’s, and amplifying the freshest talent in WA’s music community. Volume three celebrates Christmas with live music, free face sparkles and glitter tattoos, light up hula hoops, and a vintage caravan photo booth! Join this free concert at Yagan Square Amphitheatre from 6pm on Friday 9 December.

    Santa will be joining in on the late-night Christmas shopping every Friday night from 6pm to 9pm, where you’ll also find acrobatic elves, Christmas carollers, dancing gold Christmas soldiers, and plenty of other festive performers! Look out for pop up music performances by the City of Perth Concert band and City of Perth Brass band who will performing your favourite Christmas songs on Saturday 10 & 17 December. 

    Snow Flurries in the Mall
    Hay St Mall | Friday 18 & 25 November | 6pm to 9pm 
    Forrest Place | Saturday 3 & 24 December | 6pm to 9pm 

    Be delighted as make-believe snow falls before your eyes. Snow will fall in 10-minute intervals, with three sessions per hour.
    West Australian Opera – Christmas at Central Park
    Every Friday night, 18 November to 9 December | Central Park | 6pm to 6:30pm

    Celebrate the sounds of Christmas in the City with West Australian Opera! Watch the sun set over Central Park and soak up the holiday cheer as West Australian Opera artists serenade you with all your festive favourites.

    Christmas at Central Park 
    Friday 18 November, 25 November & 9 December | Central Park | 6pm to 8pm

    Central Park is bringing Christmas cheer on Friday nights with stilt-walking nutcrackers and beautiful light up flowers, complimentary Christmas treats including candy canes, macaroons and donuts. Capture selfie with the light up installations, whilst enjoying the festive performances and giveaways.
