Art in the Heart of Democracy
Art in the Heart of Democracy | City of Perth Cultural Collections at Parliament House
For the first time, the City of Perth and Parliament House have partnered to present contemporary artworks from the City of Perth Art Collection within the Edith Cowan Gallery.
Set inside the chambers where democratic processes unfold, this exhibition creates a powerful dialogue between artistic expression and civic life.
About the Collection
The City of Perth Cultural Collections champion Western Australian artistic excellence. Built through strategic acquisitions and commissions, the Art Collection reflects the diversity, creativity and evolving identity of our region, preserving the cultural narratives that shape Perth.
Twenty-First Century Perspectives
Featuring works from the opening decades of the twenty-first century, the exhibition explores themes including urban change, environment, heritage, identity and place. Across painting, photography and mixed media, the artists offer fresh ways of seeing our city - from deep connections to Country and tradition to responses to Perth’s changing skyline and social fabric.
Art and Democracy
Presented at Parliament House, these works remind us that diverse voices, creative thinking and open dialogue are essential to a thriving democracy.
