The Life of a Baby Lobster
Join us to explore the habitat choices made by the secretive early juvenile western rock lobster.
The western rock lobster fishery is one of the most valuable in Australia. Currently there is a knowledge gap regarding the early life stages of these lobsters after they have settled onto nearshore reefs. Researchers are investigating the habitat choices that these lobsters are making during this highly vulnerable and secretive stage.
About Michael Brooker
Michael is currently completing his Ph.D. at the University of Western Australia with the Oceans Institute. His research uses a combination of aerial imagery, laboratory trials, field surveys and interviews with fishers to better understand reduced lobster catches south of Dongara, Western Australia. He is a member of the UWA Marine Ecology Group Fisheries Research Lab.
This event is run in partnership with the UWA Oceans Institute. Image: Daphne Oh.
