Diners at Annalakshmi on the swan

Annalakshmi on the Swan

Annalakshmi, the “mother” of sustenance sits on the banks of the Swan and provides an ambient atmosphere where vegetarian dining is a cultural experience.

Annalakshmi literally means the goddess of sustenance and has been serving wholesome vegetarian food to the people of Perth since 1991. Annalakshmi was founded by a monk his holiness, Swami Shatanand Saraswathi (Swamiji) based on the concept ‘Athiti Devo Bhava’ – Guest is God.

In ancient India, there is a tradition that as a householder before having your meal, you should first entertain an unknown guest that comes to your home. It is believed that God comes in the form of your guest, and that it should be your duty to entertain and feed your guest to the best of your ability to their satisfaction. At Annalakshmi we strive to follow this great tradition.

This organisation operates on the ethos, "EAT TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT AND PAY WHAT YOUR HEART FEELS'.

Annalakshmi is largely run by volunteers who serve and clean as a service to the community. Through this concept, Annalakshmi serves numerous people on a daily basis, regardless of their socioeconomic status. Many patrons have expressed that in addition to physical nourishment, Annalakshmi also provides mental and emotional nourishment.

More than just a restaurant, Annalakshmi is a cultural centre where vegetarian cooking workshops are presented. Furthermore it also a space where artistes of various cultural backgrounds can express themselves in a culturally invigorating yet homely environment.
