

Where to try Perth’s best craft beer

So, if you’re wanting to try something new and sample some great local and international craft beers in a vibrant setting, then get yourself along to some of these local bars and breweries over the winter months.
Bright Tank Brewing Co
Bright Tank Brewing Co in East Perth is a microbrewery, bar and restaurant all in one, providing a social space for you to enjoy quality craft beer matched with tasty, innovative food.
With graffiti vibes and an open kitchen, Bright Tank Brewing Co is not your run of the mill bar. They offer something a little different with their monthly Beergustation menu, with each course carefully crafted to match a particular beer.
Petition Beer Corner
Undoubtedly one of WA’s best craft beer bars, Petition’s highly knowledgeable and passionate staff will introduce you to a diverse range of beer styles through its bespoke beer menu.
Located within the unique state buildings setting, Petition’s tap beer list rotates daily, offering an assortment of conventional classics and unique limited releases, with a focus on supporting local craft breweries.
Golden West Brewery
Situated within a couple of hundred meters of Golden West’s original location from the 1890s, today’s Golden West Brewery produces a small range of craft beers, including a golden ale, west coast pale ale, IPA, coffee saturated dark ale and a bourbon vanilla porter.
While there is currently no outlet on site, you can enjoy their beers at a number of local craft beer venues, including the Refuge Small Bar in Subiaco, The 21st Amendment Bar in Leederville, Gangemi’s Fine Wine and Food in West Perth, and Cecchis in Inglewood.
Caboose
Located in the heart of Mt Lawley, right next to the Flying Scotsman, Caboose is a small specialty craft beer bar that offers you your very own man cave experience.
With 12 taps of craft beer on high rotation, there’s always something new and special to try. And the best bit is, it’s kid and dog friendly, so you can bring the whole family along to enjoy the experience!
Blasta Brewing Company
This multi-award winning Burswood brewery offers its own brewed unique bold beers. With nine awards from the Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA) under its belt and two of its beers winning gold at the Perth Royal Beer Awards, you’d be hard pressed to find something not to your liking at Blasta Brewing Company.Blasta also offers great quality food at good value, and a great vibe indoor and outdoor seating, a café, a children’s play area, and a fine selection of wines, spirits and beer-inspired cocktails.
Dutch Trading Company
Winner of Australia’s Best Beer Venue in 2018, the Dutch Trading Company in Vic Park is a must go to place on the Perth craft beer scene.
Boasting 26 taps across two bars and over 300 unique bottles and cans, DTC offers punters some of the most interesting local, national and international beers available. And if you find a particular beer you like on tap, you can take some home to enjoy later as well. Beer enthusiasts will no doubt get an even bigger kick out of the Dutch Brewing Co.’s “Beer Wall of Fame” located in the Back Bar, which hosts a kid’s play area and is the perfect spot for functions and families.
Refuge Small Bar
They say variety is the spice of life and at Subiaco’s Refuge Small Bar, you’ll find plenty of variety of craft beer on offer.
Their philosophy is simple – keep it fresh, keep it local and keep it evolving – so you’ll always get the best selection of fresh craft beers currently available. And with a good range of share plates and cheese and charcuterie selections on offer, this venue provides you and your mates a good ‘refuge’ from winter’s woes.
Ogdens Brewery at The Windsor Hotel
Most would be familiar with The Windsor Hotel in South Perth, but what you may not know is that it now offers its very own micro-brewery. The Ogdens Brewery at The Windsor Hotel was established in 2018 and is run by father and son pair, Geofrey and William Ogden, in conjunction with Head Brewer, Damien Bussemaker.
Here, you can enjoy your choice of six different freshly brewed, delicious Ogden’s craft beers on tap; all of which are made right on the premises and are exclusive to the venue.
Perth Craft Beer Festival
And for craft beer aficionados or those just looking for a good time out with family and friends, you can’t go past the Perth Craft Beer Festival and its incredible line-up of over 55 craft breweries and cideries, alongside a selection of gourmet food options.
This year’s festival debuts at the Ice Cream Factory in Northbridge from 16-18 August. The fun-filled weekend features four sessions, with a ‘Friday Frothies’ on the Friday night, a Family Fun Day on the Saturday in the day hours, a ‘Super Saturday’ session Saturday PM, and a relaxed ‘Sunday Session’ to wrap things up on the Sunday.
