Looking for Christmas events to take kids to in Perth this month? Look no further. Here, we’ve rounded up movie nights, markets, workshops, shows and more to get the whole family into the holiday spirit!

Free outdoor Christmas flicks

Grab a beanbag and settle in for a magical Christmas movie on the big screen at Northbridge Piazza - no tickets required! There are family-friendly sessions of Abominable on Saturday 3rd and Arthur Christmas on Saturday 17th. You can bring along a picnic or pick up dinner (or dessert) at the array of nearby restaurants and takeaway outlets.

Kid-friendly Christmas activities

On Saturday 3rd, An Indigenous-Made Christmas will bring together First Nations artisans in Yagan Square, along with an array of entertainment for all ages including Noongar face painting, dance performances and workshops, headband making, rock painting, storybook corner and an Indigenous Santa Claus!

You can also head down to Yagan Square from Sunday 18th to Thursday 22nd December for an array of entertainment at Sleigh in the Square. There’ll be ‘reindeer’ rides at the North Pole Terminal and the chance to meet Santa in his workshop. Plus, Christmas fairies will be painting faces and guiding kids through sustainable craft activities (like decorated gumnuts and paper snowflakes).

The City of Perth Library has an origami ornament workshop for young adults on Friday 16th as well as storytime with Santa and his elf (suitable for kids aged 0 to 5) on Monday 19th.

Free family Christmas performances

Don’t miss the Alinta Energy Christmas Pageant on Saturday 3rd, when a parade of festive floats and over 2,500 performers make their way along St George’s Terrace in one of Perth’s most-loved traditions.

The Christmas Nativity in Forrest Place on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th is another must-see, sharing the traditional story of Christmas

The City of Perth Library presents the story of the Littlest Christmas Tree (suitable for ages 2 to 8) on Thursday 22nd - an experience that will delight with its messages of resilience, kindness, hope, and the true meaning of Christmas.

And the most famous Christmas ballet is coming to the Perth Concert Hall: book tickets for Nutcracker’s Winter Wonderland on Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd.

Explore the lights in the City of Light

Finally, don’t miss the Rio Tinto Christmas Lights Trail, which is brightening up the city until January 2nd. There are 35 incredible light installations for kids to explore. And if they (or you) aren’t up for a lot of walking, you can book a guided Christmas lights tour with Peddle Perth and be cycled around the city (imagining you’re on a sleigh ride)!
