It's Family Friday time! Come and bring your whole family to enjoy the myriad of activities.

We’ve got 43 events happening on Friday, 24 of which we’ve designed for families with kids.  Adults are also welcome. There is a variety of events, with some you can join between 10am-3pm. Other events require booking, such as guided tours and workshops tailored for small groups. Here is a list of a few family friendly events happening around the City of Perth.

Bindi Bindi Dreaming will be cooking up a storm with their intergenerational Aboriginal Bushfood Cooking in the Perth Town Hall between 10am-11.30am. Kids, parents and grandparents will love this! Marissa will share how traditional herbs and spices from the bush were used in the 1800s through a yarning and sharing the meal together. Book now!
Join in a firestick Kaarta Koomba interactive walk at Kaarta Koomba Kings Park. It’s an outstanding opportunity for youngsters, ages 7+ only, to have fun while learning about how the first nation Whadjuk Nyoongar are guided by the six seasons. The interactive walk starts at 10.15 am, bookings are required, and one adult must attend with each child. 

Start your day at Elizabeth Quay, where CircusWA performers will transport you back to the 1920’s ‘freak-shows’.  Participate in their workshops and watch the incredible adrenaline filled aerial displays. Interact with Punch and Judy, a Bearded Lady and a Snake Charmer as well as transform yourself in the Ugly Station. The circus will be running from 11am-4pm. No bookings required, and it is free. More at Elizabeth Quay, there will be an Archaeologists who will help you excavate your very own Dig in an area that was once underwater! Professional archaeologists from Archae-aus will present Digging it Up! Archaeology in Your City where kids get to excavate and record Perth’s past. This free interactive event is open from 10am – 12 pm and 2pm – 4pm, suitable for all ages 3+.

Don’t miss out on the amazing day of activities happening over at the Chung Wah Open House in Northbridge. This is the first year that Chung Wah have participated in Heritage weekend, bringing in and sharing the rich history, of the Chung Wah Association’s foundation stone. Established in 1910 the Chung Wah Association will be celebrating their 111-year anniversary this Perth Heritage weekend.
Explore further into Chinese heritage at the market gardens along Mounts Bay and South Perth. Participate in a full day of workshops where kids can make lanterns learn calligraphy, chopsticks and abacus.  Adults can also participate by viewing the informative historical photographic exhibition and tune in presentations, walking tours and cultural demonstrations. There is something for everyone here. The event will be running from 10am-4pm with some workshops require bookings, book now!

Check this out! Power Perth. Innovating the Electricity Grid, Past, Present and Future. Western Power are presenting some amazing family workshops where you get to discover how the energy industry plays a critical part in the development of the city. Interact with old electrical equipment from last century and watch a demonstration of futuristic Smart City applications. Make your predictions for what the City’s power supply will look like in the future. Workshops starts from 10am and 11.30am at 363 Wellington Street. Hay Street, His Majesty’s Theatre will host a full day of behind the scenes tours and workshops. and some of the workshops look truly fascinating. Check out the Cyc ‘n’ Sound Tour, which is designed for your theatre fascinated kids, ages 8+!

This is a unique opportunity to explore backstage, visit the revamped orchestra pit and interact with staging technology used to make magic happen on stage. You get hand-on time with lighting and sound equipment and the chance to shine in the spotlight center stage! The tour is 30 minutes long, runs 11am 12pm, 1pm & 2pm. It’s free but its first in best dressed so get in quick. Registration on the day.
