
The massive light spectacle has a total of 30 stops this year and will be running from 20 November to 3 January to ensure your entire festive season is brimming with magic.
This Trail guide will take you through the Red Trail where you can do your Christmas shopping along Hay Street Mall, be delighted by our enchanting building projections and joyful street decorations along St George’s Terrace, stop by Elizabeth Quay for dinner along the river, and finish in Brookfield Place where you can stay for a well-earned drink at one of the many bars and restaurants.
Plus, keep an eye out for roving entertainment every Friday and Saturday night and during the day on Saturdays and Sundays to add that extra dose of Christmas spirit!
The Red Trail begins at the corner of William and Hay Street where you’ll discover three installations as you walk along Hay Street Mall.
14 HOLIDAY POLAROID
Hay Street Mall
First stop is the Holiday Polaroid. Capture the perfect polaroid photo to remember the 2020 holiday season by. Don’t forget to hashtag #thecityatchristmas!
15 JOLLY SANTA
Hay Street Mall
Ho, ho, ho – it’s Santa visiting the Hay Street Mall! Standing at over 5 metres tall, you won’t be able to miss him shining bright with over 10,000 lights.
16 LIFELINE CHRISTMAS TREE
Hay Street Mall
Experience Lifeline WA’s enchanting tree decorated in thousands of bright lights and wrapped in a ribbon, representing the connection found when calling Lifeline’s 13 11 14 number.
While you’re admiring the installations, Hay Street Mall has plenty of stores to pick up some great gifts. You can find homewares and stocking fillers from West Elm, Potterybarn and T2. You’ll also find great streetwear stores with Culture Kings, Nike and Superdry.
17 LIBRARY LIGHTS
City of Perth Library, 573 Hay Street
Keep walking East along Hay Street and you’ll discover the Library Lights. Stand under the bright cascade of lights hanging from the outside of the beautiful City of Perth Library.
18 CHRISTMAS PROJECTIONS
St George’s Cathedral, Cathedral Square
Then head south down Cathedral Ave to see the favourite every year, the Christmas Projections! Captivating animated projections will light up the façade of this historical building. See a traditional nativity scene and some iconic Western Australian locations with a fun Christmas twist. The projections will be sure to add bright pops of colour to St Georges Terrace. From 7.30pm to midnight, music concludes at 10pm.
19 MOODITJ YONGAS (SOLID KANGAROOS)

You won’t be able to miss the Mooditj Yongas across the road! A mob of seven illuminated, festive kangaroos have found their way into the city, making it a truly Aussie Christmas.
20 COUNCIL HOUSE CHRISTMAS SHOW

It’s all happening on St Georges Terrace! Take 5 and check out the fun Christmas festivities lighting up iconic Council House. What Christmas characters can you spot?
21 CHRISTMAS CANVAS

Watch as the footpath transforms into a giant piece of interactive wrapping paper! Be mesmerised by all the different festive patterns and vibrant pops of colour, while you help call the shots on the Christmas Canvas with your movements.
22 FESTIVE FRAME
Stirling Gardens, St Georges Terrace
Snap a festive group picture with your family or friends in the giant photo frame, complete with the beautiful Stirling Gardens as the backdrop.
23 MAGICAL SWANS presented by Elizabeth Quay
Elizabeth Quay Inlet
From St Georges Terrace, stop by Elizabeth Quay and be delighted by the family of swans who have found their way into the inlet. Delight in their beauty and check out mother swan as she stands at five metres tall watching over her family.
While you’re there, stay for a drink or dinner at one of the many bars and restaurants overlooking the river. Gourmet Burgers at V Burger Bar, dinner and drinks at Lucky Shag, enjoy an ice cream for desert at Gusto Gelato.
Don’t forget to visit the Bell Tower and all it’s fascinating history while wandering along the foreshore.
Or take a gondola ride along the Swan River with Gondolas on the Swan and soak in the stunning city backdrop with all the Christmas Lights from afar.
Head back North towards the St Georges Terrace to check out the last installations at Enex and Brookfield Place.

Catch a glimpse of this eye-candy, standing at over three metres tall! A giant gingerbread man is visiting St Georges Terrace and he is sure to give you a sugar rush.
25 SANTA'S SLEIGH presented by Brookfield Place
Brookfield Place, Heritage Square
Enjoy the perfect photo opportunity sitting in Santa’s 13 metre long sleigh alongside his reindeer. Santa’s Sleigh even looks stunning by day, so this stop is one not to miss.
After all that exploring you can enjoy a night-cap at one of the many bars in Brookfield Place like The Heritage Wine Bar, W. Churchill or Print Hall.
Or if you’re tuckered out, Elizabeth Quay train station is a hop, skip and jump away down Mercantile Lane.
